The Illinois Department of Insurance (DOI) has issued Company Bulletin 2017-03 regarding exceptions for consumers in Illinois disaster areas. The Bulletin addresses moratoriums and other safeguards for consumers affected by the disaster in the Illinois counties of Cook, Kane, Lake, and McHenry.
Elephant Auto Insurance will assist our affected customers in the following manner:
- Elephant will assess Illinois policy decisions under a “reasonableness” standard that will weigh the side of the affected consumers until September 30, 2017.
- Cancellations or non-renewals issued after July 12, 2017, for affected consumers will be withdrawn with no lapse in coverage and new notices will be issued on or after September 30, 2017.
- Extensions will be offered to affected consumers for any provision with a time limit, including submission of claims, reporting of information, and payment of bills.
- Elephant will consider exceptions to policy or contract requirements or other rating or underwriting rules not listed in CB 2017-03 when contractual requirements are not met by affected consumers as a result of this disaster.
