The donations were part of the insurer’s Helping Herd program
Richmond, Va. (July 12, 2022) – Elephant Insurance recently completed a giving spree of $300,000 that benefited 52 nonprofits impacted by or providing relief related to the COVID pandemic.
The gifts were all a part of the insurer’s Helping Herd program which launched in August 2021. All of the nonprofits who benefited from the funds do work in the spaces of mental health; diversity, equity, and inclusion; physical health and community health, with each giving round focusing on one category. Elephant team members were involved in the Helping Herd selection process, either by nominating deserving organizations by survey and/or participating in the voting process to finalize the recipients.
“It has been a gift for our team to have the opportunity to give back to so many organizations throughout the last year doing good and important work,” said Alberto Schiavon, Elephant CEO. “We’re proud of this program and the community-wide impact it created, and we’re inspired to keep giving back and finding ways to reach the communities we serve.”
The fourth and final round of Elephant’s employee-driven COVID-relief donations focused on nonprofits that serve the community in the community health space, totaling $100,000 in donations across 14 different organizations. St. Joseph’s Villa and Comfort Zone Camp received the most votes and largest donation amounts, with each organization receiving $15,000.

- Maymont Foundation – $10,000
- McShin Foundation – $10,000
- SPCA Richmond – $6,000
- Mental Health America of Ohio – $5,000
- Richmond Animal Care & Control (RACC) – $5,000
- Senior Citizen Home Assistance Service – $5,000
- Friendship Circle VA – $5,000
- City Singers Youth Choir – $4,000
- Richmond Area Bicycling Association (RABA) – $4,000
- Robinson Theater – $4,000
- Mental Health America of VA – $2,000

“City Singers Youth Choir is ecstatic to be named a recipient of a Helping Herd contribution,” said Leslie Dripps, executive & artistic director of City Singers Youth Choir. “This gift will provide significant support to our recovery from the pandemic and will enable us to continue our work, which began in 1996, bringing together the youth of Richmond through the power of song from around the world and across the ages! Our free family concerts, performing youth choirs, and community music making events will all benefit.”
