Work from Home Expanded and Sick Time Off Policy Eased In Richmond

RICHMOND, VA, March 16, 2020 — In light of the continuing developments connected to the COVID-19 pandemic, Elephant Insurance is enacting measures to contribute to the global effort to combat the spread of the virus.

With the goal to keep staff and their families safe without causing disruption to customers, the company recently tested its business continuity plans to have entire departments work from home and is now accelerating its work-from-home plan. Elephant is working to ensure that every employee possible can work remotely for at least the next couple of weeks. Some departments are starting to work from home as early as the week of March 16th.

“I’m very proud of, and grateful for, all of our managers and teams who have worked incredibly hard to deliver so much in so little time. We’re so lucky to be part of a company that has the ability to make these kinds of adjustments for the wellbeing of its employees and customers,” said Alberto Schiavon, CEO, Elephant Insurance.

In addition to conducting operations remotely, Schiavon announced the company will ease policies around taking time off in relation to illness. “If any of our employees feel unwell over the coming weeks, it’s important to us that they are able to take the right precautions and stay at home,” Schiavon said. “Elephant will allow employees to take time off as needed with no need to use their paid time off allotment.” The company also has restricted all unnecessary business trips, as well as any large group gatherings related to business.

Elephant also continues to promote its robust online tools that customers can use to easily make changes to their policies, including adding or removing vehicles, and making payments or adjustments to their payment schedules. Access to these tools are fully supported by members of their agent chat team.

“We of course wish that none of this was happening, but we are a strong and united team at Elephant, and I’m confident we’ll be able to successfully handle this challenge.” Schiavon said. “We hope that together with the rest of the world, we can contribute to getting a handle on the situation and keep as many people safe as we possibly can.”
